Oxford Debate Competition

Secondary school students are invited to take part in an Oxford debate tournament organised as part of the project 'Science Clubs at the University of Gdansk - known and unknown faces of science' by the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdansk.

The debates will cover theses on sustainable development from a human perspective
and its impact on the environment. Participants in the debates will therefore take up socio-economic topics as well as topics related to chemistry and environmental protection.

Applications should be sent to the Project address: oblicza.nauki@ug.edu.pl by 01.10.2021. Sequence of applications is mandatory. The application form is attached to the invitation. Teams are qualified on a first-come, first-served basis for the 1st edition of the tournament (October - December 2021) or the 2nd edition of the tournament (March - June 2022).

In the application, the 4-member team composition (name, surname) and the name and contact details of the team supervisor must be provided.

Qualified teams have the right to participate in the public speaking training conducted at the University of Gdansk on 5.10.2021 or 7.10.2021. (selection of the date is on a first-come, first-served basis).

The schedule of the debates is attached to the invitation.

The final of the competition in the first edition will take place on 9.12.2021.

Teams that take part in the debates will receive certificates of participation in the project. Teams taking part in the finals will receive diplomas and individual prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the form of vouchers worth PLN 500, 300 and 100 respectively. The winning team will receive a cup.

The debates will be held stationary at the University of Gdańsk in the 1st edition between October and December 2021, and in the 2nd edition between March and May 2022. The organiser reserves the right to change the form of the tournament depending on the number of registered participants or to hold the debates in online form in the event that new pandemic restrictions come into force.
