Professional practice (mandatory) - general information

 

  1. The apprenticeship is carried out in both first-cycle and second-cycle programmes.
  2. The aim of the practical placement is to familiarise the Student with the organisational structure, the applicable legal regulations and the production structure at the chosen professional placement site.
  3. In the case of first-degree studies (Chemistry and Environmental Studies), students undertake compulsory in-service training after the second year of study, during the summer break. The internship lasts a minimum of three weeks (120 hours), its labour intensity corresponds to 6 ECTS credits. The minimum duration of the in-service training is two weeks (75 hours), with a labour intensity of 4 ECTS credits. For first degree studies (Chemical Business) the internship lasts a minimum of two weeks (75 hours), the workload corresponds to 4 ECTS credits.
  4. For second-cycle studies (Chemistry and Environmental Protection (full-time studies) students undertake a compulsory work placement after the first year of study, during the summer break. The in-service training lasts a minimum of two weeks (80 hours). In the case of second-cycle studies (part-time studies), the in-service training lasts a minimum of 6 days (48 hours) and its labour intensity corresponds to 4 ECTS credits. ECTS points; the student completes the internship (both full-time and part-time) during the second year of study, which is recorded in the student's transcript.
  5. In the case of second-cycle (full-time) Chemical Business studies, students undertake a compulsory work placement after the first year of study, during the summer break. The internship lasts for a minimum of two weeks (80 hours), its labour intensity corresponds to 5 ECTS credits. The internship is completed during the second year of studies and is recorded in the student's transcript.
  6. Students search on their own for the institution in which they carry out their placement. The student's independence in this respect is one element in the realisation of the social competence learning outcomes. The student can find a placement either as a volunteer or as gainful employment.
  7. The internship can be carried out in a workplace of one's choice from the chemical industry, thermal power plants, sewage treatment plants, water and sewage plants, waste disposal plants, analytical and industrial laboratories and other institutions and business units. On the part of the Faculty, student internships are supported by the Internship Manager (Internship and Placement Supervisor). He or she supports the students in their search for an internship site and coordinates the activities related to the implementation of the internship.

In-service training is carried out on the basis of an agreement (concluded between the University of Gdańsk and the student's host institution, i.e. the organiser of the in-service training), a referral and an in-service training programme, in which the terms and conditions of in-service training are included.

In-service training is carried out on the basis of agreements (full-time studies) concluded between the University of Gdańsk and the student's host institution, i.e. the organiser of the in-service training. The terms and conditions of in-service training are included in the agreement concluded with the employer and in the documents concerning the organisation of in-service training, which the student and the employer receive in each case.
  10. The internship programme should, as far as possible, take into account the characteristics of the workplace to which the student is directed and the practical skills the student should master during the internship. Given the multiplicity and diversity of profiles of individual Workplaces and Companies, the location, purpose and programme of the placement should be in line with the student's chosen course of study or pathway. Such a programme should enable the student to become familiar with the activities (production) of a given Establishment and, as far as possible, ensure the student's participation in some of the work carried out in a given Establishment, carried out under the supervision of the responsible employee (supervisor). The daily time spent by the student-apprentice at the Works should not exceed 8 hours.
  11. In the case of the implementation of an apprenticeship in workplaces that, due to RODO, require the signing of an entrustment agreement, a template of such an agreement (password-protected) can be obtained by email from the Internship and Apprenticeship Supervisor (Apprenticeship Manager).

  13. The rules for the organisation and financing of apprenticeships at the University of Gdańsk from the academic year 2020/2021 are regulated by Order No. 12/R/21 of the Rector of the UG of 22 January 2021, and at the Faculty of Chemistry of the UG by Order No. 4/2021 of the Dean of the Faculty of Chemistry of the UG of 8 February 2021.
  14. The rules for the organisation of work placements during the period of risk of SARS-CoV-2 virus infection in the summer semester of the 2020/2021 academic year are regulated by Order No. 21/R/21 of the Rector of UG of 8 February 2021.
