Classes for students conducted in the academic year 2014/2015

4.06.2015

On 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June, laboratory classes were held for students of the I and IInd class of the Secondary High School: Bolesława Chrobrego in Sopot. The classes were led by Dr. hab. Alicja Boryło and Dr. Waldemar Nowicki, and they dealt with basic issues in analytical chemistry. In addition to working in the laboratory, class II students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the NMR Laboratory (Dr. Krzysztof Brzozowski) and the Laboratory of X-ray and Spectroscopy (Dr. Artur Sikorski).

11.06.2015

On 19 May and 11 June laboratory classes were held for students of the second grade of the Secondary School in Tczew. The classes were led by Dr. hab. Alicja Boryło, Dr. Waldemar Nowicki, supported by PhD students (Anna Barabaś and Grzegorz Romańczyk). In addition to working in the laboratory, students had the opportunity to visit the MNR Laboratory (Dr. Małgorzata Czerwicka), the X-ray and Spectroscopy Laboratory (Dr. Artur Sikorski) and the Department of Technology.

On Wednesday, May 27, chemical workshops were held, attended by students from Gymnasium No. 25 in Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz and students from I LO in Tczew. Both groups pursued the same theme, i.e. ‘Chemical elements and their reactions’. Classes with junior high school students were led by Dr. Henryk Myszka, and with high school students doctoral student Anna Barabaś. Students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists served their advice and experience during the experiments.

20.05.2015

On Wednesday, May 20, chemical workshops were held for students of Junior High School No. 28 from Gdańsk-Morena. They were attended by a group of 12 students who performed chemical experiments on the topic “Chemical elements and their reactions”. The workshop was led by Dr. Henryk Myszka, and students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists served with their advice and experience at the laboratory table.

20.05.2015

On May 20, laboratory classes were held for two groups of students of the V High School in Gdańsk. The topic of the meeting was: Kinetics and chemical statics. The author of the workshops was Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, who together with Krzysztof Żamojć from the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry supervised the youth.

13.05.2015

On 13 May, workshops were held for students of the Second Secondary High School. Jan III Sobieski in Tczew, under the title: "Chemical Nature of Fragrance". The classes were led by Kinga Trepkowska doing her master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Bożena Karawajczyk in the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

08 i 12.05.2015

On 8 and 12 May 2015 two groups of students from I LO in Gdańsk were organized by the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science at the Faculty of Chemistry. The subject of the classes was the study of properties of selected groups of compounds. The meetings were organized as a thank you to the school for the opportunity to conduct classes with students in the academic year 2014/2015.

06.05.2015

On Wednesday, May 6, a chemical workshop was held, attended by young people from two schools: Junior High School No. 2 in Sopot and Junior High School No. 3 in Wejherowo. Both groups of students pursued the same theme, i.e. “Basics of laboratory work”. The classes were led by PhD students from our Faculty, Justyna Bednarko and Marta Wiśniewska. Junior high school students were helped by students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists.

On 30 April, workshops were held for students of the First High School in Pelplin entitled: "Chemical Nature of Colouring Substances" and "Aqueous Solutions and Their Properties". The classes were led by Kinga Trepkowska doing her master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Bożena Karawajczyk in the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

29.04.2015

On Wednesday, April 29, two groups of students took part in a chemical workshop. The first group of young people from the XIV LO in Gdynia implemented the theme: “Chromium and Manganese Compounds” under the supervision of Anna Barabaś. The second team consisted of junior high school students from Gymnazjum No. 1 in Wejherowo, who under the supervision of Teresa Łepek performed experiments related to the topic: “Chemical elements and their reactions”. During the meeting, all students were helped in laboratory work by students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists.

22.04.2015

On Wednesday, April 22, chemical workshops were held, attended by two groups of students: from the 2nd LO in Gdynia and from the 8th LO in Gdańsk.  The first group of students, under the supervision of PhD student Teresa Łepek, carried out the topic “Chemical elements and their reactions”, and the second, led by Justyna Bednarko, carried out chemical experiments including “Chromium and manganese compounds”. The students were assisted by PhD students Anna Barabaś and Halina Strońska as well as students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists.

On April 20, workshops for students of the First High School in Gdańsk took place. The topics were: “Research of minerals” and “Sorption properties of soil”. The classes were led by Daria Mierzejon under the supervision of Dr. Bożena Karawajczyk from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science. High school students were assisted by doctoral students.

15.04.2015

On April 15, laboratory classes were held for two groups of students of the V High School in Gdańsk. The topic of the meeting was titration and oxidation and reduction reactions. The author of the workshops was Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, who together with Michał Żyndul from the Department of Physical Chemistry supervised the youth. During the experiments, the students were assisted by a doctoral student of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk.

On April 13th, a workshop for students of the First High School in Gdańsk took place. The topic “Chemistry of cleaning agents” was implemented during the classes. The classes were led by Daria Mierzejon under the supervision of Dr. Bożena Karawajczyk from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science. High school students were assisted by doctoral students.

On Wednesday, March 25, a group of students from the Second High School in Rumia participated in the chemical workshop. Students, under the supervision of PhD student Justyna Bednarko and students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists, implemented the theme “Chemical elements and their reactions”.

17 and 24.03.2015

On 17 and 24 March, classes were organized for students of the First High School in Pelplin. The workshop covered the following topics: “Undesirable chemical processes in everyday life – corrosion, food spoilage, skin ageing” and “Advertising with trade or...manipulation?”. The classes were led by Kinga Trepkowska doing her master’s thesis under the supervision of Dr. Bożena Karawajczyk in the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

On 24 March, the Faculty of Chemistry held a lecture for students of the XXIV High School in Gdańsk. At this meeting Prof. Marek Kwiatkowski, discussed the topic: “How we quench thirst – the chemist’s gaze”.

On 12 March laboratory classes were held for two groups of students of the V High School in Gdańsk. The students carried out the experiments themselves according to the instructions contained in the work sheets. The workshops took into account the requirements of the new Baccalaureate 2015, and their topic was the study of the properties of single-function hydrocarbon derivatives. The author of the workshops was Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, who together with Krzysztof Żamojć from the Department of General and Inorganic Chemistry supervised the students. During the experiments, high school students were assisted by doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry of UG.

11.03.2015

On Wednesday, 11 March 2015, students from the 2nd and 3rd grades of the Secondary School: Feliks Nowowiejski in Braniewo took part in the workshops organized at the Faculty of Chemistry. It is worth mentioning that in recent years a large number of graduates of this high school started their studies at our Faculty. The students realized the topic “Components of chromium and manganese”. High school students were assisted by students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists and PhD students. The classes were led by PhD students, graduates of this high school, Agata Gitlin and Natalia Karna. The workshops were also an opportunity for students and doctoral students of the Faculty of Chemistry to meet their chemistry teacher in high school.

On Wednesday, March 4, a workshop was held attended by students from two schools: junior high school students from Gimnazjum No. 12 in Gdynia and junior high school students from XXIV LO in Gdańsk-Osowa. Both groups of students worked on the topic “Chemical elements and their reactions”. The students were assisted by members of the Scientific Circle of Chemists and PhD students. The classes were led by  Justyna Bednarko and Teresa Łepek.

On 22 January 2015 laboratory workshops were held for 21 students of the First High School: Nicolaus Copernicus in Gdańsk. Students listened to the lecture “Cancer as a biochemical phenomenon” and independently performed experiments in the field of kinetics and chemical statics, according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

On January 15, 2015, laboratory workshops were held for 15 students of the XXIV High School in Gdańsk. The students carried out the experiments themselves according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subject of the experiments was the study of the chemical properties of manganese, chromium and copper compounds. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

12.01.2015

On 12 January 2015, a workshop was held for 15 students of the Salesian High School in Rumia. The students carried out the experiments themselves according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subjects of the experiments were to study the reaction of ethanol with sodium and the properties of the reaction products, compare the reaction rate of methanol, ethanol and 1-butanol with sodium, compare the behavior of toluene and hexane towards bromine, depolymerization of polyethylene, study of the behavior of hydrocarbons towards bromine water, obtain methane by heating sodium acetate with sodium hydroxide. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

18.12.2014

On 18 December 2014 laboratory workshops for 24 students of the Magellanum Academic High School in Gdańsk took place. Students took part in educational games, built models of chemical molecules, visited modern laboratories and independently performed experiments according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subjects of the experiments were the preparation of oxygen in the laboratory and the synthesis of elements with oxygen, the study of the electrical conductivity of solutions, the preparation of salts by selected methods and the study of the reaction of aqueous solutions using acid-base indices. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

On 11 December 2014, in the afternoon, the Faculty of Chemistry held laboratory workshops for 33 students of the First High School: Nicolaus Copernicus in Gdańsk. The students listened to the lecture “Cancer as a biochemical phenomenon” and independently performed the experiments according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subject of the experiments was the study of the dependence of the reaction rate on the concentration of reactants, temperature, presence of catalyst, degree of fragmentation of solid substrates, study of the influence of the concentration of reagents on the position of the equilibrium state and study of the energetic effects of the reaction. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

On 11 December 2014 in the morning there were laboratory workshops for 16 students of the Hotel and Gastronomy School Complex in Gdańsk. Students watched impressive chemical demonstrations, visited modern laboratories and independently performed experiments according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subject of the experiments was the study of the chemical nature of selected substances, the study of the electrical conductivity of solutions and the preparation of salts by selected methods. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies of the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Gdańsk under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

On Tuesday, December 9, 2014, the Faculty of Chemistry organized two workshops for students from two different schools. Young people from Junior High School No. 2 in Malbork carried out the topic “Basics of laboratory work”, while high school students from the University Catholic LO in Tczew dealt with the topic: “Chromium and manganese compounds”. The students were assisted by members of the Scientific Circle of Chemists. The classes were led by Kinga Westphal and Marta Wiśniewska.

On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, students from the Gymnasium at the Sopot Tennis Academy in Sopot participated in the workshop organized at the Faculty of Chemistry. The main theme of the meeting was “Basics of laboratory work”. When performing chemical experiments, students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists supported their experience. The classes were led by Kinga Westphal and Marta Wiśniewska.

 

13 and 27.11.2014

On 13 and 27 November, laboratory workshops were held for 63 students from the I High School: Nicolaus Copernicus in Gdańsk. The students listened to the lecture “Achievements of modern chemistry” and independently carried out experiments according to the instructions contained in the work sheet. The subject of the experiments was the study of chemical properties of oxides, acids and bases and the comparison of chemical activities of metals. The workshops were carried out by students of the second year of second-cycle studies under the supervision of Dr. Małgorzata Czaja from the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science.

25.11.2014

On Tuesday, November 25, students from Junior High School No. 3 in Chojnice took part in the chemical workshop. Students from quite distant Chojnice visited our Chemistry Department for the first time. They carried out the theme “Basics of laboratory work”. When performing chemical experiments, students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists supported their experience. The classes were led by Kinga Westphal and Marta Wiśniewska.

18.11.2014

On Tuesday, November 18th, the workshops were attended by students from two schools: junior high school students from Gymnazjum No. 28 in Gdańsk-Morena and junior high school students from I LO in Sopot. Students from the middle school realized the theme “Basics of laboratory work” and from the high school “Chromium and manganese compounds”. Traditionally, the students were assisted in carrying out experiments by members of the Scientific Circle of Chemists. The classes were led by Marta Wiśniewska and Dr. Henryk Myszka.

  

5 i 12.11.2014

On 5 and 12 November, laboratory workshops for secondary school students were held. The young people conducted chemical experiments divided into exo- and endo-energetic reactions and took part in demonstrations prepared by students of the teacher module of the second year of the second degree studies. Classes organized by the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, led by Aleksandra Zahorska.

On Tuesday, 4 November 2014, students from the Non-Public Gymnasium in Puck took part in a workshop on Chemical Elements and Their Reactions. The classes were led by Justyna Wiczk and Kinga Westphal with the participation of students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists.

On 29 October, laboratory classes were held for the first classes of secondary school, during which students from the School Complex in Leźno could conduct tests using pH indicators, check how chemical yo-yo works, or admire the "dance" of sodium on raspberry solution. The classes were organized by the Department of Didactics and Popularization of Science, led by Aleksandra Zahorska.

On Tuesday, 28 October 2014, two groups of students from I LO in Puck participated in the workshops organized at the Faculty of Chemistry, who carried out experiments on the properties of chemical elements with the participation of students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists. The classes were conducted under the supervision of Marta Wiśniewska and Kinga Westphal.

21.10.2014

On 21 October 2014, the first chemistry workshop for students took place. The workshop was attended by a group of ten students from the XXIV LO in Gdańsk-Osowa and twelve students from the I LO in Sopot. The workshop focused on chemical elements and their reactions.  Students from the Scientific Circle of Chemists helped the young people to carry out their experiments. The tutor was Dr. Henryk Myszka and Marta Wiśniewska.
